The
Madison Metropolitan School District (Madison, WI) has worked
with Randy Korb for several years. We have hosted numerous district
workshops on Monarch Butterfly and Prairie Plants. Teachers of
all grade levels find his workshops and teaching materials well-designed,
practical, and fun to use with students. Randy has created workshops
to meet the needs of various teacher groups, and always leaves
them wanting more. We are excited to learn of his new ventures
with frogs of Wisconsin! I recommend Randy's workshops for the
quality of the science experiences as well as the enthusiasm he
inspires with teachers!

Workshops
Our workshops are hands on and fun! During our
3-hour after-school workshops we provide the best available information
on butterflies and frogs to teachers in order to enhance classroom
instruction on these subjects. We use live frogs and butterflies
and audio-visual aids in order for participants to learn the following:
Monarch
Butterfly Workshop
Scientific classification and distribution, butterfly
structure, behavior, and relationship to plants, butterfly garden
plants, reproductive life cycle, classroom management of eggs,
larvae, pupae, adults, keeping and raising healthy larvae, rescuing
fallen pupae, how to feed adults with artifial nectar diets, and
tagging migrating monarchs. Participants will review the newest
curricula, videos, books, posters and other activities on the
monarch, other butterflies, and butterfly gardening. Each attendee
receives a redeemable coupon for a free Monarch Magic classroom
life cycle kit (milkweed plant and monarch larva) plus numerous
handouts.
Frog Workshop
Live amphibians keep the frog workshops hopping!
Scientific classification and distribution, wetland habitats,
native frogs and their calls, reproductive life cycle, raising
tadpoles in the classroom, keeping adult frogs, and population
declines and deformities. Particiapants review the best available
curricula, activity sheets, videos, books, CDs and other materials.
We may hike or ride to some local wetlands to listen to calling
frogs following the indoor instruction at spring workshops. Each
participant receives a free copy of the presenters book, Wisconsin
Frogs and Their Urban Wetland Habitats and CD of frog calls.
We prefer
groups of less than 50 students.
Our presentations feature mixed medias including slides, posters,
audiotapes, videos, and hands-on activities.
We sometimes combine indoor and outdoor activities.
Sessions last about an hour (30 minutes for K and pre-K).
